YANKOWSKI GRABS ANOTHER UTICA-ROME WIN, CORCORAN TOPS THE CRATE SPORTSMAN,BAKER WINS PRO STOCK THRILLER, AND TRAUTSCHOLD CAPTURES THE LIMITED SPORTSMAN
VERNON, NY...After a rainout last Friday night, Utica-Rome Speedway returned to action on a chilly, breezy night with a regular program headlined by the 3 Bastards Brewing DIRTcar 358 Modifieds.
In the 3 Bastards Brewing DIRTcar 358 Modified feature, AJ Potrzebowski II grabbed the early lead as Alex Yankowski motored into second on lap 2. Payton Talbot battled pole sitter Nicholas Root for third until the first caution flew for Eric Windsor's car stopping in turn one on lap 9. Yankowski swept into the lead on the restart but another yellow flew for Brandon Loucks on lap 11. Talbot slid under Root for third and trouble hit Matt Jaczuk on lap 12. He pitted and rejoined at the rear for the restart. Talbot snagged second as Willy Decker crept into the top five and began to challenge Potrzebowski II for third. Talbot tried to run down Yankowski, but 'Kid Rocket' hit the afterburners over the final ten laps to take a commanding win. Talbot, Potrzebowski II, Decker, and Root rounded out the top five.
3 Bastards Brewing 358 Modified heats were won by Alex Yankowski and AJ Potrzebowski II.
Polesitter Josh Sokolic grabbed the lead from Will Eastman as the Jackson's Auto Outlet/Taylor's Trailers Crate Sportsman feature got underway. Eastman lost second to Tyler Corcoran on lap 3, then David Hackett Jr slipped past for third. Corcoran powered around Sokolic on a lap 9 restart and jetted away as Blake Sarpriacone fought Hackett Jr for third. At halfway, Corcoran built on his lead with Sokolic and Sarpriacone in tow, with Mike Fowler closing in on Hackett Jr. Hackett got a great restart on lap 15 to jump into second while Josh Coonradt got past Sarpriacone and fought with Sokolic, who slid high in turns three and four on lap 21, falling back to fifth. At the finish, Corcoran took the win by three seconds over Hackett Jr. Coonradt took third with Sarpriacone fourth and Fowler fifth.
Jackson's Auto Outlet/Taylor's Trailers Crate Sportsman heats were won by David Hackett Jr, Josh Sokolic, and Tyler Corcoran.
Devon Camengea and AJ Walters brought the field to green for the 20-lap JB's Line Cleaning & Plumbing Pro Stock feature, with Walters surging into the lead after two laps. As Walters and Camengea diced it out, Slater Baker closed in from third with Shane Playford in fourth. Luke Horning and Ivan Joslin split Playford on lap 7 to move up as Baker edged ahead of Camengea for second behind leader Walters. Walters pulled away in the second half of the race as Joslin's challenge for fourth stopped when he spun on lap 12 to bring out the first Wicked Tees caution of the race. Horning jumped into third on the restart and started to battle with Baker and Walters, but spun off the outside of turn four on lap 14. Walters and Baker continued their battle for the lead until Walters slipped in turn two on the last lap, allowing Baker to grab the lead and hold him off coming to the checkers for his first Utica-Rome win. Walters, Camengea, Joslin, and Horning rounded out the top five.
JB's Line Cleaning & Plumbing Pro Stock heats were won by Luke Horning and Ivan Joslin.
In the Quality Forestry Management Limited Sportsman feature,Brody Janczuk took off in front as Preston Trautschold moved into second from his sixth starting spot by lap 3. Trautschold ran wheel to wheel with Janczuk before taking the lead on lap 6 as they pulled away from Matt Bukovan in third. Lance Hill battled Tim Halsey for fourth, getting the spot on lap 9. A spin by Mark Harrington brought out a caution on lap 11, bunching the field for the restart. In the final laps, Trautschold rolled away from Janczuk and took the win. Bukovan grabbed third, with Halsey and Hill rounding out the top five.
Quality Forestry Management Limited Sportsman heats were won by Lance Hill and Chuck Lowe.
