AJ WALTERS GOES TWO FOR TWO IN THE JIM NORMOYLE MEMORIAL, YANKOWSKI CAPTURES DIRTcar BIG BLOCK MODIFIED WIN
VERNON, NY...Utica-Rome Speedway hosted its first Sunday special of the 2026 season with the running of the Jim Normoyle Memorial for the JB's Line Cleaning and Plumbing Pro Stocks, part of the DIRTcar Pro Stock Series. The DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds and Quality Forestry Management Limited Sportsman were also on the card, presented by International Wire.
Zach Payne took the lead from the pole in the 30-lap DIRTcar Big Block Modified feature with Alex Yankowski jumping into second. Mat Williamson grabbed third when Brian Calabrese slid high in turns one and two as Nicholas Root and Alex Payne slotted into fourth and fifth. At halfway, Zach Payne started to get into traffic as Larry Wight began to battle Root for fifth. Yaknowski caught Payne and slipped under him on lap 18 to take the lead with Williamson closing in. Williamson battled Zach Payne for second as Alex Payne started to mount a charge from fourth in the final eight laps. Yankowski held off a late race charge to grab the win over Zach Payne as Alex Payne grabbed third from Williamson on the final lap with Wight taking fifth.
DIRTcar Big Block Modified heats were won by Alex Payne and Alex Yankowski.
Zach Daniels and Jocelyn Roy, by virtue of the driver redraw, led the field to green in the 47-lap International Wire Jim Normoyle Memrorial for the JB's Line Cleaning and Plumbing Pro Stocks. Ivan Joslin swept the outside on the takeoff lap in turns three and four to take the lead on the opening lap. Luke Horning battled Roy for second as Slater Baker and AJ Walters were in the top five early. Walters moved into fourth on lap 8 as the first caution waved for Caden Dumblewski's spin on lap 13. Walters threaded the needle on the restart to take third and battled Horning for second with Chucky Dumblewski getting into the mix from fourth. The caution flew again for Roxanne Roy Corr's spin on lap 21, setting up another restart. Horning took the lead on the restart and Joslin slipped in turn one, falling back to third. Walters and Horning raced side by side for the lead for severl laps as Joslin tried to reel in the leaders. Dumblewski's car pulled into the pits on a lap 33 caution. Horning again took the lead on the restart, but Walters retook the lead. Joslin's race ended when he brought out the yellow on lap 36, heading to the pits. Walters held the lead on the next restart while Slater Baker challenged Horning for second as Stefanski ran right behind them. As those three drivers battled, Walters extended his lead. Horning slipped up in turns three and four on lap 44, dropping to fifth. At the finish, Walters won his second Jim Normoyle Memorial over Stefanski, Baker, Devon Camengea, and Horning.
JB's Line Cleaning & Plumbing Pro Stock heats were won by Luke Horning, Devon Camengea, Slater Baker, Ivan Joslin, and Shane Playford. The Dash event was won by Burton Ward and Kim Duell and Jason Casey captured the Last Chance Showdowns.
Mason Rogers snagged the early lead in the Quality Forestry Management Limited Sportsman feature. Kayden Depasquale slotted into second as Preston Trautschold grabbed third from Daniel O'Dell. Rogers had a full straightaway lead at halfway as Trautschold moved past Depasquale for seoncd. The race's first Wicked Tees caution didn't fly until lap 13 for Justin Crisafulli's spin in turn two. Rogers was able to gap out again on the restart and took his first win of the year by one second over Trautschold, , Cayden Graham, Chuck Lowe, who passed O'Dell in turn two of the final lap for fourth, and O'Dell.
Quality Forestry Management Limited Sportsman heats were won by Brody Janczuk and Mason Rogers.
Racing continues at Utica-Rome Speedway Friday, May 1st with a regular show of 3 Bastards Brewing DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, Jackson's Auto Outlet/Taylor's Trailers Crate Sportsman, JB's Line Cleaning and Plumbing Pro Stocks, and Quality Forestry Management Limited Sportsman.
