Utica-Rome Kartway Event Rescheduled for Wednesday, August 29 with Practice this Wednesday, August 22

VERNON, NY – After talking with several race teams that were present for the opening night of the Utica-Rome Kartway, speedway management has decided to make a couple of changes to the upcoming schedule.

In order to make some changes to the racing surface for the make-up race and the efficiency of the program, speedway officials are going to have an open practice this Wednesday, August 22 and move the make-up show to Wednesday, August 29.

“We got a lot of feedback from the drivers that were in attendance on opening night,” stated promoter Bill Shea. “We made some mistakes, but we are going to learn from those mistakes. With the big track we are known for a smooth race track and quick shows on Sunday night. We are working hard to make our Wednesday Karting program the same way. We are bringing in some of our big track knowledge to help with the Kartway. We think a practice this week well help us get things headed in the right direction. We’ll then bring everyone back on the 29th for our next night of racing.”

Unfortunately Mother Nature played a hand in the opening program for the kartway as the skies opened up in the middle of the second main-event forcing the postponement of the remainder of the program.

When the Kartway returns to the action on August 29, make-up features will be run for the Sr Clone 375, Sr Flathead 375, Jr Sportsman II and Jr Sportsman III. The Sr Winged Champ Kart feature will pick up on lap eight for the conclusion of the 20-lap main-event. The Jr Sportsman I division feature was the only race to get in and it was won by Colt Kimball.

Following the completion of those make-up events, all six divisions will get a second round of main-events which will make up the night’s racing program. The Jr Sportsman I division will get a heat race and one feature because their main-event was already complete when the rains came.

Gates open at 5 p.m. on Wednesday night with practice hitting the racing track at 7 p.m. Pit gate fee is $10 for everyone in the pits. There is also $10 per kart fee for practice.
