YANKOWSKI AND TALBOT WIN ON THE FINAL NIGHT OF VICTORIA WEEKEND AT UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY
VERNON, NY...Utica-Rome Speedway concluded its 2025 racing season Saturday night with the running of the 'New Yorker 50' for the 3 Bastards Brewing Modifieds, along with the Taylor's Trailers 602 Crate Sportsman, with the action presented by Wilcox Construction LLC and Parker Excavation.
In the 3 Bastards Brewing Modified 'New Yorker 50' feature, Anthony Perrego took the lead from the outside of the front row over Alan Barker and Rocky Warner. Warner moved from fourth to second and battled Perrego for the lead with Jimmy Phelps and Erick Rudolph grabbing third and fourth. Warner and Perrego battled for the lead as Alex Yankowski jumped ahead of Rudolph for fourth and tried to run down Phelps, getting the third spot from him on a lap 9 restart. Rudolph and Matt Smith both slid off the top of turns three and four two laps later, setting up another restart. Yankowski made a great move to grab second from Warner on lap 17 and tried to run down leader Perrego. He used a lap 22 restart to take the lead from Perrego and pulled away once he got out front.
At the halfway point, Yankowski had pulled a straightaway lead over a battle between Perrego and Phelps for second while Warner was trying to hold off Alex Payne for fifth. Phelps got Perrego for second just before a lap 32 yellow as Payne moved past Warner. Payne drove past Perrego for third as Tim Fuller cracked the top five at the lap 36 mark. Yankowski again stretched out his lead over Phelps as Fuller took fourth from Perrego. The leaders hit traffic in the final eight laps and that allowed Phelps to close in, but Yankowski made the right moves to take the win over Phelps, with Payne holding off Fuller for third, while Justin Haers got by Perrego late to wrap up the fifth spot.
3 Bastards Brewing Modified heats were won by Tim Fuller, Brandon Loucks, and Alex Payne.
The Taylor's Trailers Crate 602 Sportsman feature began with Richard Murtaugh taking the early lead with Connor Crane fighting with Kolyn Shane, taking second on lap 2. Payton Talbot moved into third on lap 5 as Crane closed in on Murtaugh at the one third mark of the feature. The first caution flew on lap 11 when Ed Lukas spun in turn four, and on the restart, Talbot moved past Crane into second was Emmett Waldron grabbed fourth and Matt Guererri snagged fifth. Talbot chased after leader Murtaugh, but Murtaugh held the advantage until a lap 19 yellow for spun cars in turn two again bunched the field. Talbot used a good move to take the lead from Murtaugh on the restart and held him off on a final restart with three laps to go to take the win. Waldron made a move on that last restart to take third from Crane, while Taylor Wason also made a pass on Guererri for fifth in the final two laps.
Taylor's Trailers Crate 602 Sportsman heats were won by Zack Welch, Emmett Waldron, Matt Guererri, and Mike Schane. The two consolation races were captured by Nick Brundige and Jim Nagle.
Earlier on Saturday, the Street Stocks and Mohwak Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series ran a program, and in the Street Stock feature, Casey Cunningham held the lead until Jason Samrov took the lead on lap 6. Cunningham took it back a lap later and pulled out enough of a gap to take a five car length victory over Samrov, followed by Matt Mosher, Shane Wetherington, and Jason Barrett.
Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series events were won by Mike Wheeler (Antique), Frank Hoard Jr. (Late Model), Joe Rando (Mystique), Merv Blackwell (Sportsman), and Andy Graves (Modified).
