VERNON, NY-With Sunday night racing winding down at the Utica-Rome Speedway, the action is sure to heat up as drivers look to better their position in the season long point standings. So with this Sunday, August 30, being the second to last regular Sunday night of action things could get real interesting at the Vernon oval. Another full show of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing is scheduled with the Stampede Steakhouse Modifieds, 602 Sportsman, Open Sportsman, and Pro Street Stocks all in action with the popular One on One Spectator races also scheduled.

In the Stampede Steakhouse Modified division, Matt Sheppard is the current point leader as he looks to claim his second ever Utica-Rome Speedway Stampede Steakhouse Modified title, with his first coming in 2002. This year’s championship will be worth over $13,000 to the victor. Currently, Larry Wight is in the second spot with last Sunday’s winner Mike Mahaney in the third spot. Pat Ward and Stewart Friesen round out the top five while Vic Coffey, Matt Hulsizer, Mike Bowman, Chris Mackey, and Tim Mayne fill out the remainder of the top 10 positions. Sheppard leads in the wins category as well as he has grabbed and impressive eight wins on the season while Wight and Mahaney have taken three wins each. Friesen has been in victory lane twice this season while Ward, Tim Fuller, and Billy Decker have single wins so far.

While pacing the 602 Sportsman division with seven wins on the season, Rocky Warner maintains just a 13 point edge over two time winner Matt Janczuk. Another two time winner, AJ Filbeck, is in the third spot in the standings with single race winners Cody Clark and Alan Fink rounding out the top five spots. Corey Barker, Connor Cleveland and Eric Giguere all have one win each with Barker winning his first career Utica-Rome Speedway event this past Sunday.

The battle for the Pro Street Stock title is going right down to the wire at Mike Welch holds just a one point edge over Glenn Forward. Mark Effner is in the third position ahead of Chris Carr and AJ Digsby. Forward has taken seven wins so far this season with Welch grabbing three. Effner has two wins while Carr, Ed Ostrander, and Pete Stefanski all have one victory each.
