FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY - June 11, 2025
WILLIAMSON WINS WEDNESDAY'S VP RACING FUELS 358 MODIFIED CHALLENGE AT UTICA-ROME
VERNON, NY.....A rainy forecast pushed round two of Utica Rome Speedway's VP Racing Fuels 358 Modified Challenge Series to Wednesday night, where fans and racers were greeted by sunny skies and some great racing, presented by James Bray Paving & Excavating.
The 30-lap VP Racing Fuels 358 Modified Challenge feature saw Matt Janczuk and Willy Decker bring the field to the green, with Janczuk taking the lead as Payton Talbot battled Brian Calabrese for third with Mat Williamson fighting with Rocky Warner for fifth. Williamson started making moves, getting to third by lap 5. Warner made contact with Calabrese and cut a right front tire to bring out the first caution on lap 6, bunching the field for a restart. Williamson took second from Decker and battled Janczuk for the lead, taking the top spot on lap 12. As Williamson got into traffic, Talbot and Decker battled for third, with Talbot taking the spot on lap 20. Alex Payne's car stopped on lap 26 to bring out a caution, which got the leaders out of lapped traffic and set up a four lap shootout to the finish. Talbot drove around Janczuk on the restart to grab second as Williamson again pulled away to take the victory. Talbot's move was good enough to hold Janczuk at bay to take second, with Willy Decker finishing behind them in fourth. Calabrese rounded out the top five.
358 Modified heats were won by Rocky Warner, Mat Williamson, and Brian Calabrese.
In the 20-lap Fastline Performance Limited Sportsman main, Bobby Newman outdragged Matt Bukovan for the lead. Jayden Wust took advantage of a lap 2 restart to move around Newman for the lead, but contact between cars saw Bukovan lose a wheel and start a chain reaction crash that sent Hayden Coons into a twisting rollover. All drivers were OK, but several cars were knocked out of the running. When racing resumed, Wust pulled away from a battle between Andrew Eaton and Sullivan Dickey. Dickey grabbed second, leaving Eaton to battle with Mason Rodgers. Rodgers snagged third on a lap 13 restart as Wust again pulled away to take the win, with Rodgers snagging second from Dickey off the final corner. Eymarah Bowman and Kirsten Swartz, who started last in the field, rounded out the top five.
Limited Sportsman heats were won by Randy Cosselman, Mason Gray, and Jacob Gurecki.
The JB'S Sewer & Septic 4 Cylinders (under SCDRA rules) had a 15-lap feature event which saw Corey Valade and Tim Dunn jump out to first and second. Valade pulled away to take the feature win as the top finishing DOHC car as Dunn broke on lap 10 and exited to the pit area. Wayne Russell Jr outdueled TJ Marlitt for second as the top finishing SOHC car, followed by David DeNova and Dunn.
Racing continues at Utica-Rome Speedway Friday, June 13th with the CSRA Sprints joining a regular race program, presented by Wilcox Construction LLC and Tom Cole's Lexi LLC. Racing begins at 7:00 p.m. For more information, visit Utica-Rome Speedway online at www.uticaromespeedway.com .
