VERNON, NY – New Year, New Heights.

The F.X. Caprara Car Companies ‘Thunder on the Thruway’ Series is set to reach new heights in the 2022 season.

The six-race mini-series between Fonda Speedway (Fonda, N.Y.) and Utica-Rome Speedway (Vernon, N.Y.) gives racers of the BD Motorsports Media LLC sister tracks an opportunity to race for additional cash on Friday and Saturday nights.

Each F.X. Caprara Car Companies Thunder on the Thruway event features an increased purse with a year-end point fund reserved for the top-10 finishers in each division.

The Modifieds race for a minimum of $4,000 to win on Thunder on the Thruway nights while the Crate 602 Sportsman race for $1,500 to win and the Pro Stocks battle for a $1,000 top prize.

In 2021, Sprakers, N.Y.’s Stewart Friesen swept all five ‘Thunder on the Thruway’ nights, claiming three wins at Utica-Rome and each of the two events at Fonda.

Gloversville, N.Y.’s Chad Edwards – the Fonda Speedway champion – acclimated himself well in his three ‘Thunder on the Thruway’ trips to Utica-Rome Speedway to become the Crate 602 Sportsman champion.

Nick Stone of Schenectady, N.Y., edged out Beau Ballard to win the Pro Stock ‘Thunder on the Thruway’ championship by just four points.

The 2022 series kicks off on May 28 at the ‘Track of Champions,’ before heading down the Thruway the following Friday on June 3 at the ‘Home of Heroes.’

The Fourth of July weekend serves as a major one for ‘Thunder on the Thruway’ competitors, with events on back-to-back nights at each speedway.

Utica-Rome hosts ‘Parks Companies Night’ and the kickoff to a busy holiday weekend in Central New York on July 1. The following night, ‘Hall of Fame Night’ at Fonda Speedway takes place with the ‘Thunder on the Thruway’ heading east on the New York State Thruway corridor the following night.

Two weeks later (July 16), Fonda Speedway hosts its final ‘Thunder on the Thruway’ event in the ’22 season. One Zee Tees and AIM Autism present Autism Awareness Night.

The night of racing will be preceded by a pre-race chicken and barbeque and a silent auction to help raise money for autism awareness.

Utica-Rome takes center stage on Saturday, August 20 for the ‘Thunder on the Thruway’ finale. The Modifieds, Sportsman and Pro Stocks will be joined by the FloRacing All-Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprint Cars.

The action-packed night of racing will be presented by Broedel Energy, to crown three ‘Thunder on the Thruway’ series champions and sees the return of the All-Star Circuit of Champions to Utica-Rome Speedway.
