UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY’S JULY 28 PRO STOCK CHAMPIONSHIP TAKES ON NEW LIFE AS PAUL DENTON MEMORIAL EVENT, MINIMUM OF $1,094 GOING TO THE WINNER

VERNON, NY- In what started out to be a $700 to win event for the Pro Stocks on July 28 at the Utica-Rome Speedway has now taken on a life of its own to become one of the biggest paydays of the season for the division.  Originally dubbed the Pro Stock Summer Championship at the outset of the 2013 season has now transformed into the Paul Denton Memorial, in honor of a man who spent decades at the speedway helping friends and family with their racing endeavors.

Behind the efforts of the Denton family, the New York Stock State Stock Car Association, and track owner Gene Cole, the July 28 Pro Stock feature event will now pay a minimum of $1094 to win and a minimum of $94 to start.  Efforts are on going to increase the payout throughout the field along with some contingency prizes.  Pro Stocks from around the region are welcome and the field will be set up by a draw for the heats and feature.  Also, the DIRTcar Hoosier will be allowed for this event but any driver looking to collect points towards the track championship must remain on the track specified American Racer tire.

Paul Denton spent nearly every Sunday for the past two decades at the Utica-Rome Speedway as the driving force behind son Tom Denton’s racing career.  During that span, Tom has been the Pro Stock champion six times and more recently, the all time Pro Stock feature winner at the Vernon oval.  Paul also was the driving force the 1992 Pro Stock Championship of family friend Craig Pritchard, who currently serves as a crew member for Tom.  Just before the season was to start this spring on April 10, Paul passed away after a brief illness.  In a fitting tribute, the Denton family has taken the reigns in promoting an event in his name for a division that he loved.

Sponsorship and contingency awards opportunities are still available by contacting the speedway office or Tom Denton at (315)855-4496.  The current purse is nearly $5,500 with efforts continuing to increase that amount.

Joining the Pro Stocks on July 28 for NYCM night will be a full regular show for the Modifieds, Sportsman, and Pure Stocks. The gates will swing open at 3:30 p.m. with racing at 6 p.m.  For more information
