VERNON, NY- On Sunday July 28, one of the biggest Pro Stock events in the region will take place at the Utica-Rome Speedway and it continues to get even bigger.  The Paul Denton Memorial will pay $1094 to the winner with a strong purse throughout the rest of the field, with a minimum of $100 going to the 24th place car.

Defending Pro Stock track champion, Tom Denton, has been working tirelessly to put this event together in honor of his father who passed away just before the 2013 campaign began.  Currently, he has gotten the total purse up to $7,200 as of July 1 with a good possibility of it going up even more.  There are also contingency prizes lined up as well and those will be released in the upcoming weeks.  Anyone interested in being part of this huge event for the Pro Stocks can contact Tom at (315)855-4496.

The event will be run under a draw format, with an open draw for heats then a redraw for the top heat finishers for the feature.  The rules are open to cars from Utica-Rome, Fonda, and DIRTcar sanctioned with open and crate motors both being allowed.  The 602 crate motors will not be required to run a rev limiter.  Tire rules are simple also, with the DIRTcar Hoosiers and American Racers from area tracks being allowed.

The current purse is at 1-$1094, 2-$600, 3-$500, 4-$450, 5-$425, 6-$400, 7-$375, 8-$350, 9-$325, 10-$300, 11-$275, 12-$250, 13-$225, 14-$200, 15-$190, 16-$180, 17-$170, 18-$160, 19-$150, 20-$140, 21-$130, 22-$120, 23-$110, and 24-$100.

Paul Denton spent nearly every Sunday for the past two decades at the Utica-Rome Speedway as the driving force behind son Tom’s racing career.  During that span, Tom has been the Pro Stock champion six times and more recently, became the all time Pro Stock feature winner at the Vernon oval.  Paul also was the driving force the 1992 Pro Stock Championship of family friend Craig Pritchard, who currently serves as a crew member for Tom.  Just before the season was to start this spring on April 10, Paul passed away after a brief illness.

The Pro Stocks will be in action with the Modifieds, Sportsman, and Pure Stocks with the night’s action being presented by NYCM and Big Dog BBQ.  Gates will open at 3:30 p.m. with racing set to begin at 6 p.m.
