VERNON, N.Y. - After a busy off season, the Utica-Rome Speedway is excited to announce its 2013 schedule which includes several special events with all of the speedway’s weekly divisions taking center stage for extra money events.
The season kicks off on April 21st with the 52nd season opener for the Modifieds, Open Sportsman, Pro Stocks and Pure Stocks. One week later the speedway hosts the Race of Champions Sportsman series for the first of two stops in 2013 with the second coming on June 16.
A 50-lap Modified main-event highlights the May 12 program as they will compete for a $5,000 winner share that evening. May concludes with the Victoria 200 weekend on May 26 and 27. On Sunday, the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints make their first of three appearances at the speedway and on the next day the Modifieds compete for a $10,000 winner share with the 602 Sportsman making their first start of the season while racing for $1,000 to win.
Regular shows highlight the month of June before the speedway kicks the month of July off with the second visit by the Empire Super Sprints on July 7 as Utica-Rome hosts the final event of the SUNY Canton Speed week for the series. Just three days later on Wednesday night all divisions will be in action on Fan Appreciation Night. As always fan appreciation night is just $5 to get in with a can food donation or $7 without. It is also a Short Track SuperNationals Qualifier for the Modifieds.
On July 14 fans will have the opportunity to meet and greet their favorite drivers as part of autograph night. Then the following Sunday the Go Nuclear Late Model series visit the speedway for the first time. The month of July wraps up with a Pro Stock Summer Championship event which will pay the winner $700 on July 28.
August kicks off with the Pure Stock Summer Championship and a $500 to win feature for the full fendered drivers. Two weeks after on August 18 the Modifieds will run twin 20 lap features.
The yearly salute to the past called the Night of Legends takes place on Wednesday, August 21. The Modifieds are set to run a pair of 50-lap, $5,000 to win Race of Champions feature events while the speedway honors legendary drivers Jerry Cook and Dave Lape. The 602 Sportsman are also on the card that evening.
The month of September starts off with the Empire Super Sprints making their third start of the season as they kick off the 2013 New Yorker 200 weekend. The following day the Modifieds and 602 Sportsman take to the speedway as the track hopes to start of new tradition with a two day program on Labor Day weekend. The Modifieds are competing for $10,000 with the 602 Sportsman racing for a $1,000 winner’s share.
The 2013 racing season wraps with the First Annual Cole Cup for the 360 Sprint cars on Saturday, September 7. Sprint teams from all over the northeast will be in competition looking to take home the $7,000 winner’s prize. The 602 Sportsman are also on the card that evening for their final $1,000 to win event.
