Utica-Rome Speedway improves driver safety with purchase of
new fire suppressant system
VERNON, NY- In their ongoing efforts to ensure driver safety whenever they compete at the Utica-Rome Speedway, Gene Cole and his track safety crews regularly review the equipment on hand and scenarios in which they made be needed. Since a racing fuel fed fire is the number one concern when it comes to racing accidents, UR management looked improve their chances of fighting such a fire before an incident occurs.
After a meeting with a Jerome Fire Equipment representative last week, it was decided to purchase a self powered fire suppression system that will be mounted on the current safety truck. With a 150 gallon capacity that will hold water and the latest fire suppressing chemicals, the UR Safety Crew will be prepared for almost any unfortunate incidents. With the ability to spray over 100’, crews will be able fight a blaze without putting themselves or anyone else at risk.
The unit should be ready when the speedway roars to life for the first time in 2009 on April 19.
On the schedule for the Canastota Kart 48th Season Opener are the mighty Big Block/Small Block Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. Gates will open at 3 p.m. with racing at 5:30 p.m. For more information, log on to www.uticaromespeedway.com or call the speedway office at (315) 829-4557.
