VERNON, NY- For the past several seasons, a growing number of 602 Crate powered Sportsman have entered weekly events at the Utica-Rome Speedway despite being at a distinct disadvantage by competing in the weekly open Sportsman division.  For the 2014 season, track owner Gene Cole will provide a bonus to the highest finishing 602 Sportsman car during in regular weekly events.

Provided that there at least three 602 Sportsman in the field during a weekly event, a $100 bonus will be given to the highest finishing crate powered Sportsman.  Drivers must declare that they are a 602 Sportsman when entering the gates on a weekly basis, and the highest finishing car will need to go to post race technical inspection for verification and may be subject to inspection.  Competitors are reminded that they will need a NASCAR competitors license to compete in any regular weekly event at the Utica-Rome Speedway.

The 53rd season gets underway this coming Sunday, April 27, at the Utica-Rome Speedway.  A new era will begin as all divisions will be competing in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series with the headlining Modifieds competing not only for the lucrative track title but a state and national title as well. The Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks also will see added point money at season's end, but also have the chance to compete for a national title as well.  The gates open this Sunday at 3:30 p.m. with racing starting at 6 p.m.
