Stage is Set: New Yorker Sunday, Sept. 5, Championship Night Sept. 3 at Utica-Rome

VERNON, NY – The stage is set.

The New Yorker returns to Utica-Rome Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 5 as part of a two-event Labor Day Weekend event at the Home of Heroes.

The New Yorker was first contested on Sept. 1, 1963 with Lou Lazzaro winning a 400-lap event! The race has been run over several distances: 400 laps, 200 laps, 100 laps, 50 laps and 40 laps.

The event was last held on May 13, 2018 with Matt Sheppard winning a 100-lap event.

For the ’21 edition, a 100-lap main will pay $12,000 to the victor in honor of the late Jumpin’ Jack Johnson, who was a 27-time winner at Utica-Rome. Johnson was the track’s Modified champion in 1982, the last year the speedway ran as a Friday night venue.

‘RJ’ Ronnie Johnson will be on hand to compete in the event honoring his father.

$42,080 has been posted for a minimum of 28 starters in the Sunoco Modified 100: 1. $12,000; 2. $6,000; 3. $4,000; 4. $2,500; 5. $2,000; 6. $1,400; 7. $1,300; 8. $1,200; 9. $1,100; 10. $1,000; 11. $750; 12. $650; 13. $550; 14. $540; 15. $530; 16. $530; 17. $520; 18. $510; 19-28. $500.

All past New Yorker winners are guaranteed starters for the event.

For the first time in ’21, the powerful Patriot Sprint Tour (PST) 360 Sprint Cars will invade Utica-Rome for a $3,000-to-win event.

Worthington Industries Crate 602 Sportsman race 30 laps for $2,000 to win and $125 to take the green flag. A total of $7,195 will be paid to the Crate 602 Sportsman competitors.

The total Crate 602 Sportsman payout is as follows: 1. $2,000; 2. $1,000; 3. $750; 4. $400; 5. $300; 6. $250; 7. $200; 8. $175; 9. $165; 10. $160; 11. $150; 12. $140; 13. $130; 14-24. $125.

Algonkin Motel Pro Stocks will run a 25-lap main for $1,000 to win and an increased pay structure throughout the field thanks to Next Generation Grafix.

Pro Stocks compete for the following payout: 1. $1,000; 2. $600; 3. $350; 4. $250; 5. $175; 6. $170; 7. $165; 8. $160; 9. $155; 10. $150; 11. $135; 12. $130; 13. $125; 14-24. $120.

For the Sunoco Modifieds, Worthington Industries Crate 602 Sportsman and Next Generation Grafix Pro Stocks, Sunday’s event will be the final leg of the Fuccillo Autoplex of Nelliston Thunder on the Thruway point series between Utica-Rome and N.Y.’s Fonda speedways.

Gates will open at 4 p.m. Hot laps hit the track at 6:15 p.m. with racing at 7:15 p.m.

Adult grandstand admission is $25. Seniors (ages 65 and up) pay $23. Kids 11 and under are FREE.

Pit admission is $40 for non-members and $35 for Utica-Rome Speedway members.

Two days prior to the New Yorker event, Utica-Rome Speedway will host Championship Night for all weekly divisions Friday, Sept. 3 presented by Algonkin Motel LLC and Slade Automotive.

Sunoco Modifieds, Worthington Industries Crate 602 Sportsman, Next Generation Grafix Pro Stocks, Fastline Performance Limited Sportsman and Cool Stuff Antiques Four Cylinders will all compete and decide the ’21 track champions.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Friday with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m.

Adult admission is $12. Seniors (ages 65 and up) pay $10. Kids 11 and under are FREE.

Pit admission is $35 for non-members and $30 for Utica-Rome Speedway members.
